A. Anikhanov became first conductor in Russia who performed a number of the opuses by Britten within the framework of St.Petersburg Festival of the English music.


Andrey Anikhanov

Andrey Anikhanov was born in Leningrad (Russia) in 1965.

Studied in Glinka Choral College of St.Petersburg Academic Capella. In 1983—1987 he studied in St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, choral conducting department, professor Elizaveta Kudriavtseva.

In 1992 he graduated from Conservatory where also studied at the opera and symphony conducting department, professor Alexander Dmitriev.

In 1989 he was invited to Mussorgsky State Opera and Ballet Theatre in St.Petersburg and in 1992 he became principal conductor of this theater. Under his conducting theater was on tours with opera and ballet performances in the USA, Japan, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Poland.

Since 1996 — A. Anikhanov is artistic director and principal conductor of St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. With this orchestra he was on tours in South Korea, Finland, Italy.

Among other orchestras A. Anikhanov conducted: St. Peterburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Symphony Orchestra, St.Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Teatro Bellini — Catania, Orchestra sinfonica di Sicilia, etc.

He was artistic director and principal conductor of opera productions of “EUGENE ONEGINE” by P.Tchaikovsky at Grasline Opera (Nantes, France) and Savonlinna opera Festival (Finland).

During 1993—2003 he recorded 25 CDs with State Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra of the State Mussorgsky Theatre for such renown labels as: AUDIOPHILE CLASSICS, NAXOS, MARCO POLO, MELODIA, GOOD HOPE.

A. Anikhanov was musical director of St.Petersburg Easter Festival in 1992-1996.

He twice received the St.Petersburg Lord-Mayors Award in sphere of art and literature (1993, 1995), and in 1999 he received high title of Honored Artist of Russia.
